Add Activities to the Lesson Tiles (Engrade Support)

This article describes how to navigate the Lessons Tiles and assign activities to your class.

When adding activities to the Lesson Tiles, you will be presented with the following options:

My Courses allows you to select items to add the lesson tiles from district course maps or your own class course maps.  You will see all course maps displayed that apply to your subject area and grade level.
My Lesson Plans enables you to add any lesson plans you have created to the lesson tiles.  Note that lesson plans will only be visible for teachers, and not students.
Add Instructions allows you to create a tile which includes text instructions for students.  This type of tile could also be used to display the learning targets or essential questions for a lesson.
My Links allows you to link to any URL from a tile and give it your own title.  Use this function to link directly to most BCPS Digital Content, paste the direct link to the item in as the URL.   When using external URLs, always make sure that students can access the content when on the BCPS network.

My Files allows you to upload a file to a lesson tile which students may access.  The following types of files may be uploaded:

  • Documents: pdf, doc, xls, ppt, pps, pub, docx, xlsx, xltx, pptx, ppsx, dotx, potx, odt, odp, ods, sxw, sdw, sxi, sxc, kes, flipchart

  • Images: jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, gif

  • Music: wav, mp3, midi, mus

  • Video: mov, avi, wmv, mpg, mpeg, asx, mp2, tgz, zip, gz, tar

  • Other: txt, csv, xml, html, htm, rtf, wxi

*Note: Some file types may require specific software to open.

My Wikis allows you to add wikis that you have created to a lesson tile.  A wiki is a page to which you can add and organize content for your students to access.  For example, you might use a wiki to provide instructions and links to several quality resources for students to conduct research.  Learn more about creating wikis here.
My Publishers will provide you with a list of the third party publishers relevant to subject area and grade level.  This allows you to add all of the content from the publisher to your tiles.  It is recommended that you instead add specific content using the individual third-party icons.
Add Assignment allows you to create an assignment directly from the lesson tiles.  However, you will receive fewer options for your assignment than if you create it from the gradebook.  It is therefore recommended that you create the assignment from the gradebook, rather than through the lesson tiles. All assignments will display on the lessons tiles on the due date you specify, regardless of where they are created.
My Tests allows you to add an assessment you have created yourself using the Tests & Quizzes feature directly to a lesson tile.

BCPS includes learning objects uploaded by the curriculum offices.  These are also available in the context of the course maps.

Third Party Content is available based on the grade level and subject area of your course.  For example, a math class may see a Khan Academy icon, while an English class would not.  Once you select the content provider, you will be able to narrow what you see by content area and grade level.  It will default to the content area and grade level of the class.  You may notice that finding specific content from these providers in this view is not alwyas user-friendly.  For some of these providers, you may prefer to use the "Add Link" function with a direct link as previously described.
