Naming Conventions for BCPS One.docx (Last modified 9/2014)
In addition to the naming conventions described below, course map names should also include a status indicator:
- When a course map is under development and has not been assigned to schools, "(DRAFT)" should appear after the course name.
- Example: Course Name (DRAFT)
- Once a course map has been reviewed and approved for release to schools, "(BETA)" should appear after the course name. This indicates that teachers are encouraged to access the curriculum in BCPS One, but not required.
- Example: Course Name (BETA)
- When use of the curriculum, including assessments, in BCPS One is required, remove the "(BETA)" from after the course name.

Naming Conventions |
Elementary Courses and Secondary Courses Named by Grade |
Begin with the word “Grade,” followed by the number. Include a 0 if it is a single digit. The subject is not needed because unless the subject is not specifically tagged. For Gifted and Talented courses, GT follows the number. For example:
- Grade 01
- Grade 01 Library Media
- Grade 04 GT
- Grade 11
Course maps sorted by name will display grouped by grade (Grade 01 [ELA], Grade 01 [Science], Grade 01 [Math], etc.). Course maps sorted by subject will display chronologically (Grade 01, Grade 02, Grade 03…)
|
Secondary Courses Not Named by Grade |
Whenever possible, use the course name indicated in the Course Registration Guide. Numbered courses use Roman numerals. For Advanced Placement courses, AP precedes the course name. For example:
- AP US History
- Algebra II
- French IV
- Physics GT
Course maps sorted either by name or subject will display alphabetically and/or in order by Roman numeral. Using AP before AP course titles will group AP courses together for a subject.

Secondary Courses with Both Grade and Title |
Begin with the word “Grade,” followed by the number. Include a 0 if it is a single digit. Follow the grade with the course title. For Gifted and Talented courses, GT follows the course title.
- Grade 06 World Cultures
- Grade 07 Pre-Algebra
- Grade 08 American History GT
Course maps sorted by name will display grouped by grade. Course maps sorted by subject will display chronologically.
