Create Student Groups

Creating student groups is an effective way to help you manage customizing instruction for your students.  Student groups may be created in the Student Groups area ahead of time or "on the fly" while adding activities to the lesson tiles.  Groups can be edited at any time to support a flexible grouping model for instruction.

Create Groups Ahead of Time

Follow these steps if you wish to create groups that you will use at a later time or date.

Create Groups (Engrade Support) This resource demonstrates how to create groups for a specific class with a video and step-by-step screenshots.

Once groups are created, you may use them view grades, give assignments, and add activities to the lesson tiles by student group.

Create "On the Fly" Groups while Planning Instruction

Follow these steps if you wish to create groups as you add activities to the lesson tiles while planning for instruction.  This will allow you to use the same group again when adding additional activities.

1.  Select "Lessons" in the left navigation bar.

2.  Select “Add Activities” next to the date on which you would like the activity to populate.
3.  In the pop-up window, select the arrow next to "Students" to view the list of student names.  To de-select all students, uncheck the box next to "Students."  Then, select the students you would like to assign the activity to and create a group from.
4.  Check the box next to "Save Group?" and enter a group name.  Then select "Choose Activities" to continue selecting your activities.  See Lesson Tiles to learn more about adding activities to the lesson tiles.
